On the evening of September 24th, 2023, the renowned Pallas Theater in Athens, Greece, was the setting for a grand cultural fusion, as the Sino-Hellenic Performing Arts Alliance staged the national-style epic drama, “Legend of the White Snake Remix.” This performance marked a significant milestone, not only for the alliance but also for the century-old theater, as it welcomed nearly 1,400 attendees to witness a large-scale stage play performed by non-professional actors for the first time.

Among the distinguished guests attending the performance were the Chinese Deputy Consul General in Greece, Wang Qiang, Cultural Commissioner Zhao Feng, several Greek parliament members, diplomats, prominent political figures, and leaders from the business community. The audience was composed of both Greek and Chinese spectators, showcasing the strong bonds and cultural exchange between the two nations.

The “Legend of the White Snake Remix” is a unique adaptation of the traditional Chinese legend, blending elements of national style with modern theatrical techniques. This epic performance was a captivating fusion of Chinese mythology and contemporary storytelling, creating a cultural bridge between the East and West. The nearly full house at the Pallas Theater bore testament to the immense interest and appreciation for this cross-cultural production.

And just like that, thousands of years ago, the fruit of the two of bright flowers of civilization in the East and the West merged and became this drama, just like that said the late Greek writer Nikos Kazantzakis:
“Under every Greek there is a Chinese.”

The successful staging of “Legend of the White Snake Remix” at one of Greece’s most prestigious theaters represents a significant moment in Sino-Hellenic cultural relations, demonstrating the power of art in fostering understanding and connection across cultures.
