"Women of Passion, Women of Greece" Embarks on a Groundbreaking Tour in China

"Women of Passion, Women of Greece"

The English-language theatrical performance, “Women of Passion, Women of Greece,” created by the renowned Train Theater (To Treno sto Rouf), is set to embark on an extraordinary tour in China, with 11 scheduled performances across four major cities: Beijing, Shijiazhuang, Pengzhou, and Chengdu. This tour is part of the 2nd International Monodrama Festival and serves as a cultural bridge between Greece and China, showcasing the richness of Greek heritage on an international stage.

Directed by the theater’s artistic director, Tatiana Ligari, the play premiered in Greece in 2016 and has since captivated audiences worldwide, touring countries such as Australia, Belgium, and India.

A Celebration of Passion Through Iconic Women
Written by Eugenia (Jenny) Arsenis and performed by the talented Evelina Arapidi, the play presents a powerful monologue that intertwines the lives of three iconic women: Medea, Maria Callas, and Melina Mercouri.

Through a journey that bridges myth and reality, the performance explores themes of passion—passion for life, love, creativity, and freedom. It masterfully weaves narratives from ancient and modern Greece, placing women and their enduring strength at the heart of its storytelling.

Showcasing Greek Culture on a Global Stage
Tatiana Ligari emphasizes the significance of this ambitious tour:
“This tour aligns with our organization’s mission to promote Greek culture on a global scale. After 27 years of artistic innovation, Train Theater continues to bring Greek theatrical artistry to new audiences, this time in a country with a rich cultural history and a deep appreciation for Greece, like China.”

This extensive tour, unprecedented in Greek theatrical history, aims to forge new cultural collaborations while strengthening the bonds between two ancient civilizations.

The play is accompanied by live music performed by Spyros Mylonas, adding depth and emotion to the performance, transporting audiences into the timeless world of Greek passion and cultural legacy.

“Women of Passion, Women of Greece” is more than just a performance—it is a celebration of Greek culture, a bridge between East and West, and a testament to the enduring power of storytelling and passion.
