On the evening of November 22, local time, the Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe presented their stunning production, “Flying Fairy: Chinese Acrobatic Show”, at Athens’ Christmas Theater. Invited by the Sino-Hellenic International Theater Festival, this extraordinary performance drew nearly 2,000 spectators and served as a significant milestone in the cultural exchange between China and Greece.

Through jaw-dropping acts such as “Ballet on Shoulders”, “Aerial Silk Dance”, and “Double Diabolo”, the troupe demonstrated the pinnacle of Chinese acrobatic artistry. The show seamlessly blended traditional Chinese aesthetics with Western classical influences, delivering a unique cultural feast that left the audience spellbound.

As the performance concluded, the theater erupted in applause and cheers, with spectators giving the artists a standing ovation. Cries of “Bravo!” echoed throughout the hall, and a mother with her child clapped excitedly as the young boy imitated the diabolo performance, exclaiming, “They are magicians!”

She highlighted how such events contribute to the vision of building a community with a shared future for humanity.

Jannis Theofanopoulos, President of the Greece-China Friendship Association, expressed his delight at witnessing the beauty of Chinese acrobatics in Greece, acknowledging the importance of such exchanges in strengthening bilateral ties. Irene Moundraki, Head of the Drama Department at the Greek National Theater, congratulated the Sino-Hellenic International Theater Festival for facilitating these cultural collaborations. She expressed excitement about the Greek National Theater’s upcoming production of “Oresteia”, directed by Theodoros Terzopoulos, set to tour China next year.

Wu Zhengdan, Director of the Guangzhou Acrobatic Troupe, spoke about their efforts to merge Eastern and Western artistic traditions. The evening’s program included highlights from their acclaimed works, such as “Metamorphosis: Butterfly” and “Swan”, offering Greek audiences a fresh perspective on Chinese acrobatics.
