Among them was none other than the famous Monkey King Sun Wukong from China’s beloved classic, Journey to the West. This extraordinary scene marked the prelude to the Sino-Hellenic International Theatre Festival 2023-2024, a groundbreaking cultural event aimed at deepening ties between Greece and China through the universal language of art.

At the heart of the airport’s departure hall, a group of performers emerged from behind a towering white curtain wall, as though stepping through a portal across time and space. Among them, Socrates and Confucius stood shoulder to shoulder, symbolizing a dialogue between Eastern and Western philosophy. Nearby, Zhu Yingtai from the Chinese legend Butterfly Lovers was seen alongside Shakespeare’s tragic heroine Juliet, representing a union of two dramatic traditions.

However, the star of the show was undoubtedly the Monkey King, whose vibrant attire and dynamic presence quickly caught the attention of onlookers. With his iconic golden staff and mischievous grin, Sun Wukong served as a cultural ambassador, offering travelers a glimpse into the richness of Chinese mythology.
